Biography

Ilya (Ukraine, 1933) and his wife Emilia (Ukraine, 1945) Kabakov live and work on Long Island (USA). Solo exhibition have been dedicated to their work by prestigious institutions around the world among which: Kunsthalle Bern, Bern (1985); Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel (1987); Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, Kunsthalle Zürich, Zurich, Institute of Contemporary Art, London (1989); Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington (1990); Sezon Museum of Modern Art, Nagano – Japan (1991); Museum Ludwig, Cologne (1992); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (1993); Hessisches Landesmuseum, Darmstadt (1994); Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel, Museet for Samtidskunst, Oslo (1995); Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Brussels (1996); Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin, Kunsthalle Bremen, Bremen (1998); Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus (2001); MAXXI, Museum of Contemporary Art, Rome, The State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg (2005); Beraldo Museum Of Modern Art, Lisbon, CAC Malaga,Malaga, (2010); Sprengel Museum,Hanover (2014). The Venice Biennale of 2007 devoted a large space to the Kabakov’s who had already partecipated to the 1992 Documenta.
